Ceramics for capacitors are used because of their dielectric qualities. The relative permittivities of ceramics insulators are 5 to 5 000 times higher than those of plastic insulators and from 1.3 to 1 300 times higher than those of the components for electrochemical capacitors. The main interest of a capacitor is to constitute an energy stock. The capacitor is used as an electric shock absorber by eliminating the parasites and by collecting the tension peaks that damage the electric circuits. It also plays a part of filter and element of dephasing.
They are used in HF circuits, filtering or coupling circuits, and in the automotive ignition and inverters.
